Strengthening Faith Institutions

A network of trained facilitators across England.

Strengthening Faith Institutions (SFI) was launched in 2016 with help from the Ostro Fayre Share Foundation, with funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

SFI is a network of trained facilitators supporting over 1,000 faith institutions throughout England.

Places of worship that join the SFI network receive a tailored action plan to help them meet their organisational objectives, and a course of focused training in the core areas of safeguarding, security, governance and funding, as well as other areas of need.

How the scheme works

  1. Health Check. Local, faith-based expert facilitators work with the senior management of your faith centre on a bespoke health check, to identify its key organisational strengths and weaknesses.
  2. Training sessions. Regular training for all SFI organisations, including qualification courses for senior management, trustees, clergy, volunteers and members in the key areas. This helps faith institutions become self-sustaining centres of support for their community, able to take on social enterprise.
